Aldenham School, Founded 1597

Hockey

Our vision is to provide a well-structured, challenging and enjoyable experience to junior players where they can develop an affinity for the game and equip themselves with the tools needed to support their aspirations in the game.

  • Boys, Girls and Mixed
  • Astro turf and indoor facilities
  • Aldenham has one full size astro and a new half sized facility recently opened by Olympian Shona McCallin. Our Head of hockey Huw Stevens runs both girls and boys programmes and also the indoor programme.

The Hockey coaching staff  provide a performance strand and a recreational strand to our programme that allows all players to participate and gives the most aspiring the opportunities to realise their full potential. We are guided by England Hockey’s code of ethics and behaviour in its beliefs and expectations of players, staff and parents. Individual and team success is encouraged and striven for, but not to the detriment of the key values outlined in the code.

The performance pathway encompasses the 1st XI, 2nd XI (1st XI development squad), U15A, U14A, U13A, U13B for boys and a 1st XI, U15 XI and U13XI for girls. The focus of coaching is on technique, skill acquisition and development of game understanding. All are given the necessary coaching and opportunity to discover a passion and ability for the game and to move to the elite player pathway.

Pupils at Aldenham are fortunate to be offered the chance to take part in our EPP (elite player pathway) if they show themselves to excel. The EPP encompasses, as far as availability allows, boys selected from the performance strand for specialised coaching via boys’ indoor teams, overseas tours and individual work with professionals, either current or ex-internationals.
