How Do You Choose The Right School?

Malcolm Gladwell has written a great deal about the 10,000 hour rule. He calculates that for someone to excel at something, whether it be sport, music or computer programming, they need to have had around 10,000 hours practising. In this time, a career can be shaped, a reputation made or a gold medal won.

It is extraordinary to think that 10,000 hours is roughly the same amount of time a UK school child spends in their Senior School between the ages of 11 and 18 (more for a boarder).

In that time, their whole life can be shaped. And it can never be repeated. We hope that you will take the time to consider such an important decision really carefully, and trust that you will visit Aldenham to find out whether we we are the right environment for your child to spend such a crucial amount time in their formative years.

What Makes Us Unique?

Aldenham U15 v Whitgift ISFA Final

All Round Education

Here we remember that achievement is an individual matter, be it entry to an Oxbridge college, a sporting or cultural goal or perhaps simply growing up into a well-balanced individual (or a combination of these!).

OUR HERITAGE

Explore Our Long History

Founded in 1597 by Richard Platt, (Master of the Brewers’ Company in 1576 and 1581). In 1596 he obtained Letters Patent to build “the Free Grammar School and Almshouses” at Aldenham from Queen Elizabeth 1 and the Foundation Stone was actually laid in 1597.

OUR HERITAGE

Evolution And Adaptation

Throughout the centuries, the school has continued to evolve, embracing new challenges and adapting to change. From increasing in size and updating its facilities to revising the academic timetable and expanding the curriculum, Aldenham has always stayed true to its core values.

OUR HERITAGE

Co-educational, Boarding And Day

The school is now fully co-educational, with a balance of boarders (from age 11) and day students reflecting both social and historical shifts, yet the ethos remains rooted in the founder’s original intent: to promote “learning, knowledge, virtue.”

OUR HERITAGE

Over 400 Years Of Exceptional Education

In recent years, Aldenham has expanded further with the opening of the Prep School for boys and girls in 2003. As the school enters its fifth century, with the largest number of students in its history, it remains committed to providing an exceptional 3-18 education while staying faithful to the values set by its founder.
