It’s official – we are U12 and U13 Football County Champions!
This week saw two great victories for the U12 and U13 footballers. On Tuesday the Year 8 team retained the County Cup trophy with a 3-1 win over Kings Langley School. After dominating the opening spells we took the lead through a Michael Duggan volley. A number of chances were missed and we went in at half time 1-0 up. A blistering start to the second half saw us effectively finish the game in a 10 minute spell. Firstly a magnificent strike from Gabriel Saunders from the edge of the box made it 2-0 before Oscar Boateng was fouled in the area and Daniel Oyegoke scored the penalty. Kings Langley did pull a goal back from the spot themselves but the boys comfortably held on to win.
The following day it was the Year 7 team’s chance to win the U12 trophy for the second year running. Like the Year 8s they scored early to settle nerves and went onto win comprehensively, playing some outstanding football in a 5-1 win against fellow Brewers’ school, Dame Alice Owen. The first goal came from Ola Okeowo after a great pass from Romey Eccles-Meoded. The second saw Okeowo set up Eccles-Meoded for an easy tap in following a flowing move. The Dame Alice Owen keeper made a number of saves to keep them in the game at half time.
Dame Alice Owen started the second half stronger and Gabriel McManus made an outstanding save from a header to keep the 2 goal cushion. From there it was one-way traffic with Okeowo scoring a 3rd, his second. Tom Barrett then scored the goal of the game with a magnificent 20 yard strike into the roof of the net to make it 4-0. A penalty was then awarded which saw Okeowo claim his hat-trick on the rebound after his initial effort was saved. The opposition continued to try and deservedly got a consolation goal in the dying minutes.
With the Year 10 team in the U15 final on 19th April we can still dream of a hat-trick of wins. That would certainly be a great hat-trick!
