Year 12 pupils undertake a week of work experience each June. This is sometimes the most important week of a sixth former's course as they find out about the real world and discover if their expectations are matched by potential career choices. It can also give them the incentive to study harder to achieve required grades and goals.
We try to place students in a career area of their choice and staff members endeavour to visit as many students as possible to receive feedback from employers. Unfortunately the Careers budget does not stretch to a flight to visit those students working in Germany or Asia!
Aspiring medical students get the chance to find out what it's like in Pathology departments, observing operations or spending time at GP Practices. Valuable experience has also been obtained in Dentistry and midwifery. Our Finance students experience banking institutions and some have even made it onto the Trading Floor, whilst others work with the Royal Institute, Surveyors, Accountants and Lawyers. A variety of opportunities can also range from Television (both News and lifestyle) to national and local newspapers.
There are wonderful opportunities to coach a variety of sports, work with young children at different schools and gain experience of airline work, specialist catering, and music. We try to accommodate everyone's wishes.
