Aldenham School, Founded 1597

Rounders/Cricket

Aldenham is expanding the Girls’ Summer Programme to focus on both Cricket in addition to the already established programme of Rounders. The school boasts ample facilities for both sports, with a total of 8 rounders pitches and 2 pitches suitable for Twenty20 cricket.

Whilst rounders remains a popular sport with the Girls, who enjoy the element of competition, a growing interest in cricket within the school has lead us to create a programme which supports and improves the development of the core skills, tactical awareness and physical readiness to play each game.

Our cricket specialist, David Goodchild, regularly supports the Girls in their training; running skill specific sessions to help athletic development. David has had an active role developing the Boys’ cricket within the school and has been behind a number of their successes.  He is a ECB Level 3 coach, Hertfordshire county coach  and is the Boys’ 1st XI Coach.

The school currently follows a pairs format of Cricket for the Girls, however there are plans to be able to progress them onto playing a full version of the game in the near future.

In both sports, the Girls play a number of competitive matches and tournaments  throughout the summer term, as well as taking party in highly contested inter-house competitions. Our plans to develop cricket for the girls also include the possibility of running UK based tours for all age groups to help improve their exposure and experience in the game.
