Poetry Competition

The inaugural Yr 9 poetry competition, sponsored by the English department, was an unqualified success.  The new theatre was the venue for twelve students to recite their own verse in front of their whole year group, following a term of studying poetry in English lessons. The Headmaster adjudicated the competition, and said that he was particularly impressed by the variety and standard of the poems.  The winners were Lawrence Taymani (1st), Anthony Coote & Christopher Hudson (2nd equal) and John Okunpolor & Mark Rodger (joint 3rd place).

The winning poem:-

The Sea
Don't be seduced by its calm emerald banks
or its roaring waves-blue,
The sea's an evil puddle of doom,
and a deadly choking machine.
If you stray far enough,
you may well enter a shark's restaurant.
The sea is God's tears,
forged by sin.
Many people vanish
in this treacherous bin.
