Foundation Stage – encompasses children from Nursery to the end of their Reception Year.
Assessment & Recording- whilst in Nursery and Reception the children are constantly being observed and assessed. This information is recorded in their own profile which is an ongoing record of their achievement. This information is shared with parents on Parents' Evening. In Nursery the Hertfordshire Learning Record of Achievement and ASPECTS is also completed and in Reception the Foundation Stage Profile (FSPs) and PIPS.
Behaviour Policy – at Aldenham we are committed to establishing a learning environment that promotes positive and acceptable behaviour. We use positive praise and stickers to reward good behaviour.
The Learning Experience – Early Years education is a very important stage.
Development at this age can be very rapid and young children must have opportunities to explore as much as possible. The FS helps us to meet the diverse needs of young children, helping them to achieve the ELG.
The Foundation Stage is a statutory stage of the National Curriculum and the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) set high expectations.
The six areas of learning:
Personal, social and emotional development
Communication, language and literacy
Mathematical development
Knowledge and understanding of the world
Physical development
Creative development
What are the ELG’s?They are a set of 13 assessment scales, each of which has 9 points. The FSP builds up a picture of each individual child’s learning and development.
Planning for learning. All staff are involved in planning the curriculum for the children, long term and medium plans are shared with the parents and weekly themes are noted on the weekly newsletter. Children are encouraged to bring in items related to the themes.
Pre-Visits – Prior to starting in the Nursery an appointment is made for you to share information about your child with a member of the nursery staff. E.g. please tell us if other languages apart from English are spoken at home.
