Aldenham students Osnat Katz, Luke Paice, Max Quastel, Isabella Crack, Amy Bexon, Sam Stanbury and Eleni Ioanno were amongst a group of students offered a unique opportunity to impact the future of UK science at the Royal Institution's first Unconference in September. Following presentations by keynote speakers from science and education backgrounds the 14-18 year olds joined focus groups to discuss these areas and then presented their findings to a panel of journalists, MPs and Scientists. Their input will help shape the future of scientific public policy and decision making in the years to come but the most important outcome was to showcase the ability and potential of young people when they are driven by curiosity and creative learning outside the classroom.
Some of our students were singled out by their peers to talk for the group including a solo talk from Osnat Katz. All the students were buzzing with ideas and suggestions for the future.
The information from the students was being twittered at the same time not only by the RI but by the students themselves and allowed other people to join in from outside the RI.
