Once again the annual House Music Competition was a roaring success. The Sports Hall was full to capacity with pupils (past and present), staff, parents and friends and the audience was treated to a very special afternoon and evening of musical entertainment.
During the afternoon each House fielded an Ensemble and a team to perform the Part Song – Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines, some more serious than others but all outstanding.
The afternoon results were - Ensemble: 1st McGill's , 2nd Beevor's, 3rd Kennedy's. Part Song: 1st Paull's, 2nd Ridings, 3rd McGill's
In the evening the soloists took the stage and wowed the audience with their skills and confidence. The winners were - 1st Harry Cohen – Riding's, 2nd Louis Slater – Beevor's, 3rd Worjciech Kukula – Kennedy's
The Unison performances were all wonderful and the adjudicator, Mr Edward Longstaff, Assistant Director of Music at the Purcell School, was extremely impressed by each and every one. He said that the first House on stage, Beevor's, set a very high standard and confessed that he did not expect the following performances to be able to beat them. The whole school displayed great spirit throughout the event and he encouraged the students to continue to take the joy of making music with them throughout their lives. He praised the conductors highly declaring that all six did a wonderful job, with all of them giving clear and effective direction. His chosen winner was Toby Varian – Kennedy's.
The Unison winners were: 1st Kennedy's, 2nd McGills, 3rd Riding's
Well done to everyone for the hard work put into rehearsals and for very enjoyable performances.
