Following the success of reaching the quarter final in the ISFA sixes the 1st XI began their 11 a side season with a home fixture v Bradfield. In a close contest, where both teams gave the ball away too easily, Bradfield made the most of their possession and scored through a sloppy piece of Aldenham defending to lead 1-0 at the break. Aldenham came back strongly after the interval and a spectacular Ross Pincus 30 yard strike levelled the score. However minutes later Bradfield scored the winning goal again through a lack of defensive concentration.
The first school match without Saturday school kicked off at 10.00 am at John Lyon under sunny skies. In a first half dominated by Aldenham the team turned around 1-1 after conceding an early Penalty, Matt Wallace’s goal bringing the team level. After re focusing on the game rather than any other distractions, Aldenham piled on the pressure to score 5 unanswered second half goals through Tom Pettet, Dan Quick, Joe Gritt, Hamoun Jamali and an own goal (sorry Sebastien!). The final score did not flatter the School and the message is clear - focus on playing football and good performances will follow!
