Physical Education Lessons
Years 7- 9 (1 period per week)
Short courses (approx. 5/6 weeks) are taken in a selection of the following, covering aspects of the National Curriculum:
Athletics, Gymnastics, Badminton, Dance, Health-related fitness & fitness testing.
Years 10 & 11 On reaching year 10 pupils can choose to follow a GCSE in Physical Education that has proved to be very popular. The pupils choose four practical sports where they are assessed in skill and proficiency in each of these sports. For the coursework unit, the pupils design and perform their own fitness and training programme for their sport and make detailed research into health and nutrition, methods of training and acquiring new skills for their chosen sport. (see GCSE PE) Students who choose not to take this option will follow a certificate of Achievement course.
Years 12 & 13
In the sixth form pupils can opt for A Level physical Education, another popular option for students, (see A level PE) The Physical Education programme runs concurrently with the games programme that all pupils follow, both complementing each other, and enabling pupils taking examinations in PE to have a much greater in-depth knowledge of their sports.
