Paull’s House is home to all day and boarding girls at Aldenham from Year 9 to Year 13. Over the past couple of years the House, which celebrated its centenary in 2006, has been fully modernised to offer superb facilities for day and boarding pupils. A new corridor of bedrooms means that every boarding girl has a choice of either an individual room or a double room if they wish to share with a friend. We have a large community of full-time boarders from all over the world, particularly from Germany, China, Korea and America.
The Centenary Room is a place for personal study, with internet and email access from a bank of computers. Paull’s has become a regular winner of the School Senior Effort Prize for academic effort, with pupils from the House yet again being offered Oxbridge places: Joel Winton and Emily Chan, both for Cambridge.
The room is also used to host some of our main social events such as the Christmas dinner, birthdays or celebrations such as Chinese New Year which reflect the diversity of cultures in the House. We also run regular evening activities for boarders from pamper evenings to arts and crafts.
Sport and activities are an important part of House life. The annual House music and drama competitions are keenly contested and most girls participate in competitive sport both against other schools and within Aldenham through the girls’ activity teams of Mead and Pollard. Netball, hockey, horse riding, dance (available at GCSE) and tennis are just some of the more popular activities for girls.
Paull’s is run by a team of residential and non-residential staff. The Housemaster, Mr Dean, lives in the House with his wife Sharda and their three young children. Miss Nye and Miss Matthews are the Assistant Housemasters. They are assisted by two residential tutors, Miss Macdonald and Mrs Sellar, and the Matron, Jan Mills. Each year group also has an academic tutor who will take them through a full Life Skills programme looking at the issues which affect young people most.
Much of the day to day running of the House is performed by the House prefects and in particular the House Captains.
In Paull’s we try to create a community ethos which promotes learning and friendship. We support each other and challenge each other. We emphasise the importance of making the most of the many opportunities Aldenham has to offer, of filling the day with both purpose and fun and of fulfilling the potential that lies within every pupil.
